Water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) of films and sheeting


Accredited testing of the performance of type II face masks according to EN 14683 standard.


The tests include bacterial filtration efficiency (BFE), differential pressure (DP) and microbiological cleanliness (Bioburden).


The three tests included in this package are needed in order to attach a CE marking on a type II face mask package.

The measurement is performed by placing the investigated sample in a chamber, through which nitrogen is flushed. The nitrogen is led through an absorption cartridge, which traps the VOC compounds. Upon completion of the gas collection, the trapped VOCs are analyzed with thermal desorption-gas chromatography (TD-GC).The measurement can either be performed at ambient temperature, or the sampling chamber can be heated.

Suitable sample matrices

 Films of different materials and coated surfaces such as cardboard. The surfaces of the material need to be smooth to get trustworthy results. Maximum thickness 2.5 mm. The expected WVTR value should

Minimum sample amount

 At least three sheets of the material are needed. Minimum sheet dimensions 10 x 10 cm, but preferably 20 x 20 cm to ensure optimal quality.
